Reuschke Presents Paper at ENHR Conference

Tuesday 10 July 2012

Dr Reuschke presented the paper "Housing equity, mortgage crisis and entrepreneurship in the UK" at the annual international conference of the European Network for Housing Research (ENHR).

In this paper Dr Darja Reuschke and Prof. Duncan Maclennan investigated connections between the housing and mortgage markets with self-employment and firm formation in the UK. This paper reveals that the sharp decline in mortgage lending since 2008 has hit the self-employed the most. Entries into self-employment are now less associated with owning a home with a mortgage, and those without property, which they can borrow against, are less likely to remain in self-employment. This research was supported by an Early Career Grant from the Regional Studies Association.

Darja is a research fellow based within the Centre for Housing Research.
