Dr William Austin appointed to MAREMAP

Monday 31 October 2011

Dr William Austin (Head of Department) has been appointed to the academic advisory board of MAREMAP.

The Marine Environmental Mapping Programme is an initiative to integrate the mapping expertise across the UK Natural Environment Research Council (British Geological Survey, National Oceanography Centre and Scottish Association of Marine Sciences). The MAREMAP research programme will produce detailed geological and habitat maps and models based on multibeam data. These are tools which will improve the understanding of the shallow subsurface and the sea floor; they underpin the increasing requirements for developing our offshore resources whilst looking after the environment. Dr Austin, who chairs the UK Marine Studies Group, will, as a member of the advisory board, help steer the project towards supporting Government and Industry objectives.
