McKee Co-Organises ‘Decentring Urban Governance’ Workshop at UC Berkeley

Monday 14 December 2015

Dr Kim McKee co-organised a workshop on ‘Decentring Urban Governance’ at the University of California, Berkeley (4 December). She was invited to jointly organise this event by Professor Mark Bevir from the Centre for British Studies at the University; he is a world leading scholar on governance with expertise in Politics and Public Policy.

The event brought together inter-disciplinary scholars from Britain including:

The workshop sought to consider from a range of disciplinary perspectives and public policy areas ‘decentred’ understandings of governance in an urban context.  In doing so, contributors drew attention to the messy and situated nature of governance through reference to continuities and discontinuities in policy narratives, as well as practices of resistance.  Uniting the papers was an interpretive approach to the study of governance, which emphasises meaning and action in addition to a humanist epistemology.
