McKee delivers Keynote at GWSF Housing Conference on ‘Community Anchor’ Potential

Friday 27 November 2015

Dr Kim McKee delivered a keynote presentation at Glasgow and the West of Scotland Forum of Housing Association’s (GWSF) annual conference, 20th November, in Glasgow’s Grand Central Hotel. GWSF are a membership organisation for Scotland’s community-controlled housing association movement.

Kim’s presentation, which was delivered jointly with GWSF’s Membership & Policy Officer Dr Colleen Rowan, reflected on the potential of community based housing associations as community-anchor organisations.  This is a topic that Kim has researched and written widely about over the last decade, and it is highly relevant in policy terms given the proposals within the Community Empowerment (Scotland) Act 2015.

Going forward, Dr McKee will be working with GWSF in an advisory role as they develop their ‘mini-manifesto’ for the forthcoming Scottish Parliament elections.  A key focus of this will be the contribution housing associations can make to a range of government policy agendas around community empowerment, health and social care, and welfare reform mitigation.

Other presenters on the day included: the Minister for Housing & Welfare Margaret Burgess MSP, David Orr (CEO of the National Housing Federation), and Rosemary Agnew (Scotland’s Information Commissioner).
