2015 Nuffield Research Placements Celebrated

Wednesday 16 September 2015

Congratulations to Rebecca Brown Cooper (Balwearie High School, Fife) who successfully completed a Nuffield Foundation research placement in DGSD over the summer 2015, working alongside Professor Bill Austin.

Rebecca, now studying for her advanced higher qualifications, completed a project entitled "The environmental cost of Carbon Capture and Storage" and is shown below (with Bill) at the 2015 celebration event, recently held at the Royal College of Physicians, Edinburgh. Commenting of the DGSD research placement scheme, Professor Austin noted "it was an absolute joy to work with Rebecca over the summer on such an exciting project; she did a fantastic job and it was a genuine pleasure to attend the Nuffield celebration event in Edinburgh to see Rebecca display her work and talk to others about her findings. The Nuffield scheme provides an excellent opportunity to enable secondary school students to sample and then hopefully pursue a career in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) subjects; Geography as a discipline offers exciting STEM opportunities to a broad range of students."
