31 years of glacier change in Iceland

Wednesday 10 June 2015

In early June, during the 3rd year Geography field course in south Iceland, Dr Charles Warren was able to document dramatic shrinkage of Solheimajökull glacier.

As an undergraduate in 1984 he carried out research there, and during the recent visit he photographed the glacier from the same vantage point.

The pair of photos below show the extent of retreat and thinning during the intervening 31 years.
