CHR Event on 'Deconstructing Generation Rent'

Friday 20 February 2015

The theme of ‘Deconstructing Generation Rent’ was the focus of a seminar held at the University of Sheffield on 13th February 2015.

Funded by the Housing Studies Association and organised collaboratively by the Universities of Sheffield and St Andrews, the aim of this event was to challenge popular notions of ‘generation rent’ by bringing together a range of different disciplinary, methodological and theoretical perspectives on the issue.  The motivation for the event emerged from the organisers recent Leverhulme funded research on Young People’s Tenure Choices and Future Welfare (part of the larger Mind the Housing Wealth Gap project).

Over twenty people attended the one day event and eight papers were presented following an opening keynote by Dr Peter Mackie, University of Cardiff.  In addition to academics from universities across the UK, the audience also consisted of researchers working in policy and practice representing organisations such as Homeless Link as well as independent research consultancies.
