DGSD staff in Iceland

Friday 29 August 2014

Department of Geography & Sustainable Development staff Richard Streeter and William Austin are currently in south Iceland preparing for next years undergraduate field trip.

The current eruption highlights the active nature of Iceland’s volcanic environment which has shaped its landscape and people.

Richard Streeter commented from Iceland this morning (Friday 29 August) “This eruption, coming after the eruptions in 2010 and 2011, demonstrates the frequency in which Icelanders are exposed to volcanism. As a result Iceland is a unique place to study the geography of our dynamic earth and how societies respond to hazards.”
