Launch of Centre for Population Change and Migration Observatory Scotland project: Migration and constitutional change in Scotland

Thursday 12 September 2013

On Wednesday 18th September 2013, exactly a year before the referendum on constitutional change, Professor Allan Findlay and Dr David McCollum launched a project which seeks to explore migration to and from Scotland in the context of the Scottish independence debate.

The informal event was held at the National Museum of Scotland and involved a short introduction to the project from academics leading the project from both the ESRC Centre for Population Change and the Migration Observatory. This included discussion of initial research findings, a preview some of the work to be published ahead of the referendum and other important questions about Scotland’s role as a country that both sends and receives migrants.

Both the CPC and the Migration Observatory are undertaking this work as part of the Economic and Social Research Council’s programme on the Future of the UK and Scotland. Details about these projects can be found on The Future of the UK and Scotland website
