What is your favourite memory (academic or social) of St Andrews?

I have loved my time here, so it’s pretty difficult to choose. My first great memory of St Andrews was my first night of freshers. It was also my birthday, so my flatmates surprised me by buying me a card and a cake and we had a party together. I remember feeling so happy that they were so nice and that we were able to have such a good time.

What will you miss most about your time as a student at St Andrews?

Of course, the biggest thing I will miss is being able to see my friends on a daily basis, but I will also miss the School of Geography and Sustainable Development. It has such a good atmosphere and community - I have really loved it and really felt a part of the school. I feel very lucky that I am staying for a fifth year in St Andrews so I don't have to miss the town or community just yet!

What advice would you give to new students?

The Athletic Union President in me says join a sports club! It was the best decision I made when coming to Uni as it’s such a great way to make friends and look after your wellbeing. I wasn’t particularly sporty when I came but found a sport that really suited me.

Other than sport, just get stuck into life at St Andrews, there is so much going on within our small town that you can definitely find something to suit your interests.

What are your plans after graduation?

I’m currently working as the Athletic Union President for the University, which is one of six Sabbatical Officer roles.

How do you think the Covid-19 pandemic and global events have shaped the Class of 2020?

The Class of 2020 had so many hurdles thrown at them even before Covid-19, so I think we are going to be some of the most resilient graduates the University has ever had.

Have you taken any positives from the situation?

I’ve really loved spending more time talking to my friends and family who live across the country. I’ve seen it bring a lot of my friends closer to their families, and I think it’s really heartwarming in such a scary and uncertain time.

Do you plan to come back to celebrate in person in St Andrews in 2021? If so, what are you most looking forward to about it?

Yes, I cannot wait to have a reunion with everyone and to get to celebrate with my family.
