Social Media Assistant and Content Writer

The Graduate School for Interdisciplinary Studies is an academic school that delivers Masters degrees from a truly interdisciplinary perspective. Students learn across boundaries, develop and apply practical skills, and are part of a vibrant and welcoming postgraduate community. The school currently offers five diverse programmes with a new programme, the MSc in Energy Ethics, launching in September 23-24.

The school is looking to appoint a social media intern to promote our programmes, school events/initiatives and PG student life through our current channels. As well as publishing regular professional, eye-catching posts, this role holder will review the current social media platforms used within the school to assess the appropriate audience and content published, suggesting ways of maximising engagement for current and incoming students as well as with collaborators out with the school. 

Ideally, we are looking for a current PGR student within the university who is available to work 4-6 hours a week over an 8-week period in the summer. This internship opportunity will expose you to invaluable professional networks and, as a formal position, will add depth to your CV, while setting you up with the skills to manage your own social media profiles in your future career.

Project and Key Responsibilities 

This is an exciting opportunity to work with the team in the Graduate School to support the social media platforms within the school. These channels are essential to communicating with applicants, current students, alumni and collaborators while promoting a positive and professional profile of the school.

Key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: 

• Creating and sharing regular content via the school’s Twitter and LinkedIn profiles. 
• Organise takeovers on the university’s central Instagram account.
• Working with staff and students across the school to generate content around academic and student life within the context of an interdisciplinary PGT school. 
• Work with St Leonards College to promote PGT-relevant PG opportunities on the Graduate school platforms.
• Promoting information relating to events and initiatives within the school. 
• Reviewing the current social media platforms within the school, making suggestions for improvements or alternative channels to maximise engagement.

Dates of internship

4– 6 hours a week starting 31st July 2023 (or as soon as possible after) for an 8-week period.

The post will be paid at usual intern casual salary rate (Grade 2 point 5, £10.90 an hour), hours will be agreed in advance.
