Jaws 3D (1983) – St Andrews Photography Festival – 3D series

October 21 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Free

As part of the St Andrews Photography festival, Professor Michael Cowan and Drs Lucy Donaldson and Tom Rice have organised a short season of 3D films, which will take place each Sunday at 3pm throughout October in the Byre Conference Room. The screening is free, but a ticket must be collected from The Byre.

Following the 1950s era, the taste for 3D dimmed, only to be revived in a series of genre movies in the 1980s. 3D became a way to enliven less reputable genres, such as horror, and to promise new attractions in ongoing franchises, like Jaws 3D. A similar pattern emerged in the mid-2000s with a whole series of 3D remakes of films like My Bloody Valentine and Piranha. The introduction to Jaws 3D will draw on the history of 3D cinema in genre films, starting in the 1950s with Creature from the Black Lagoon.
