October 12, 2018 @ 9:30 am - 4:30 pm

PhD candidates in their final or penultimate year from Modern Languages, Film Studies, Art History, and English are invited to a one-day cross-School professional development workshop.

Over the course of the workshop, participants will develop skills for:

  • Writing CVs and research proposals
  • Connecting projects to emerging research trends
  • Collaborating across disciplines
  • Articulating research questions
  • Addressing a non-specialist audience

The sessions will be led by academics from Film Studies and Modern Languages with contributions from Dr Steve Joy, Head of Researcher Development at the University of Cambridge. Dr Joy is an expert in professional development for Postgraduate and Early Career Researchers in the Arts & Humanities. His highly successful early career blog and Guardian posts have provided invaluable practical advice on, amongst other topics, writing academic CVs and cover letters.

PGRs interested in attending the event should contact Dr Dora Osborne (do38) and Dr Paul Flaig (pf49) with their name, thesis title, year of study, and a short statement of interest in the workshop (max. 150 words). Deadline for applications 8th October 2018.

This workshop is supported by the University’s PGR Development Fund.
