Thanks to the contribution from the St Andrews Library Enhancement Fund, access copies of two short films made during the Uruguayan dictatorship (1973-1985) will be deposited at the University Library. This is the first time that Super-8 films of that period will be available in good access copies. Both the animated film El honguito feliz (Cineco, 1976) and the documentary 1o. de mayo de 1983 (Grupo Hacedor, 1983) are tremendously important works that provide important resources for those studying Uruguayan film and this period in history. The availability of these films will greatly enhance the study of this still unresolved past.

This project was the result of a collaboration between Simone Venturini (Università di Udine – Italy), Julieta Keldjián (Universidad Católica del Uruguay – Uruguay) and Beatriz Tadeo Fuica (University of St Andrews – Scotland). The financial support provided by the three Universities allowed these films to be scanned at 2.3K and 12bit resolution at La Cammera Ottica (Gorizia – Italy) to produce preservation masters and good access copies.
