Geoparsing for Digital Humanities

This event requires that you pre-register or buy tickets.

Description
Talk hosted jointly by the Graduate School Digital Humanities Seminar series and the St Andrews Digital Humanities Network. Dr Grover will talk about the work she and her Language Technology Group have been doing to adapt the Edinburgh Geoparser for use in digital humanities. She will discuss how the tool has been used in the Trading Consequences and Palimpsest projects, as well as more recently in an ambitious exercise to analyse the content of Scottish local newspapers. The talk will illustrate some of the challenges involved in adapting the tool for use with a new dataset of this kind.
