In partnership with the University, E-Car Club now operate a fleet of 10 all-electric vehicles and 2 Hybrid cars in St Andrews for use by students, local residents and businesses alike. The vehicles are located across the town at Agnes Blackadder Hall, The Gateway, rear of 101 North Street, Castlecliff (the Scores) and David Russell apartments. There are 8x fully electric Renault ZOE’s, 2x Renault Kangoo Z.E vans and 2x Toyota Auris Tourer Hybrids.

The Renault ZOE’s cost just £4.50 per hour/ £35 per day (24 hours) and the Kangoo’s cost just £6.50 per hour / £50 per day. These costs are all inclusive, so no need to worry about insurance, power or other costs.

For personal use: Sign up on-line at Membership to E-Car Club costs just £50 but check for deals - this is a one-off lifetime membership and will allow you to use their cars across the UK (London, Oxford, Northampton, Stratford-upon-Avon and many more locations). Membership is available to over 19s who have been driving for more than a year and have no serious previous driving convictions.

Once registered and paid you will receive a card and personal PIN to access the vehicles. Then book your car via and pick up your car from 5 handy loctions. Off you go… When you’re back...Return to the same parking bay, plug it in and lock it up!

For Business Use:

1. Email Sarah Latto in Procurement requesting e-car membership for business use for you or your team (;

2. Fill in the registration form with your team’s driving details (licences etc.);

3. Await your Corporate ID card and PIN to arrive.

Then, to book a car...

4. Authorised bookers/ drivers must follow the Guidance for Booking Hires when on University Business;

5. Gain email authorisation for booking from line manager and budget holder;

6. Ensure your driver declaration is within date;

7. Book your car via the e-car website using your membership login and PIN;

8. Enter your cost centre, analysis or detail code as the booking reference;

9. Pick up your car from one of the five handy sites;

10. Off you go!

 When you’re back...

11. Return to the same parking bay, plug it in and lock it up!

Important information for international students

It is a criminal offence to drive using a licence that is not valid in the UK. If you hold a driving licence that was issued somewhere outside of the UK (England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland) please follow this link for more information on the revelant steps that you need to take: Before driving please make sure you are aware of the correct driving procedures in the UK.

Please be aware that you may be permitted to only driver for a limited period of time.
