Travelling by bus

St Andrews is easily accessible from across Scotland by bus. Most bus services arrive and depart from the bus station in the centre of town. When the ticket office within the bus station is closed, visitors should buy tickets for their service from the bus driver using cash.

Bus travel within St Andrews

There are a number of bus services that serve St Andrews and the local area. Stagecoach in Fife offer a number of routes around the town via the 99 services, as well as routes that go through nearby towns and villages. Moffat and Williamson also offer a range of routes in around St Andrews.

STAGECOACH

Stagecoach operates the majority of the bus routes in East Scotland and over the UK. The Stagecoach website provides journey planners, timetables and the option to buy monthly or yearly Megariders (season tickets). These are surprisingly cheap; an East Scotland Megarider + allows unlimited travel on all Stagecoach services within Fife, Kinross, Clackmannanshire, Glasgow, Stirling, Falkirk, Edinburgh City and Dundee, and costs only £28 for one whole week! See this map for the extent of this amazing deal!  Additionally, you can buy Uniriders online, which are cheaper unlimited tickets for students on certain routes. Note that student fares on buses are only valid if you leave Fife, and not on Dayriders.

MOFFAT AND WILLIAMSON

Moffat and Williamson is another provider of bus travel in and around St Andrews. They provide a St Andrews town service (9B), and service many areas including Leuchars, Balmullo, Gauldry, Wormit, Newport, Dundee and Tayport through their 92, 92A & 92C services and 92, 92B and 92D services. They also service Madras College through their MD7, MD8, MD12, MD13 and MD14 services. Although they provide limited services in this area, they are usually cheaper than travelling with Stagecoach. At the time of writing, a single ticket from Leuchars railway station to St Andrews was almost £1 cheaper! Please see their website for further details.

As an aside, you can also hire a whole bus with Moffat and Williamson! Breakaway often use their buses to go on trips around the Scottish Highlands. If you have a large party of people needing to get from one place to another, why not send them an email. You might even end up here!

Travelling to and from Leuchars

The Stagecoach in Fife 99 service runs from St Andrews to Dundee, via Leuchars approximately every 15 minutes during the day. The bus journey from St Andrews to Leuchars takes around 15 minutes. Visitors may also choose to take the Moffat and Williamson 92 service from St Andrews to Dundee, although this service does not stop at the bus station.
