How to recycle Paper

[Complete a works request on the Estates Helpdesk to request new paper bins or white hessian sacks (Image as below)]

Please follow these guidelines when recycling paper:

Books with hard or glossy covers

Coloured office paper (staples okay)

Newspaper Non-paper cups
Magazines Paper towels
Phone directories Tissues
Jiffy mailing bags with paper filling Undergraduate prospectus
Shredded confidential waste

Jiffy mailing bags with plastic filling

Envelopes (including those with plastic windows) Non-shredded confidential waste
Post-it notes  

Cardboard

Please follow these guidelines when recycling cardboard:

  1. Ensure boxes are flattened
  2. Ensure sharp items and tools (razors/scissors) used to open boxes are removed
  3. Contact a janitor to find out where the cardboard uplift point is located within your building
  4. Complete a works request on the Estates Helpdesk to have your items uplifted

Confidential materials

[Shredding material requires energy and staff time. Please ensure that the confidential waste bags are only used for confidential material.]

  • Confidential material that has been shredded using a cross-cutting shredder can be placed in paper recycling bins.
  • Contact your senior janitor to request special confidential waste bags for material that cannot be shredded.*
  • Complete a works request via the Estates Helpdesk to arrange an uplift of these bags.
  • You can arrange to personally witness the shredding of your confidential materials.

*Do not fill these bags to their full capacity as they become too heavy. If you cannot lift the bag with one hand, divide the confidential waste among two or more bags.

If you are clearing an office space

 

Please contact your senior janitor who will provide additional white hessian sacks for both paper and confidential paper recycling

 

*Do not fill these bags to their full capacity as they become too heavy. If you cannot lift the bag with one hand, divide the confidential waste among two or more bags.

 

Complete a works request on the Estates Helpdesk to have your items uplifted
