Abe Davies

Education and Experience

Abe studied English & American Literature as an undergraduate at the University of East Anglia, and took an MLitt in Shakespeare Studies at St Andrews in 2008-09. After some years spent working in publishing and as a freelance journalist and editor, in 2015 he was awarded AHRC funding to undertake a PhD at St Andrews. His thesis looks at the ghosts and souls of Shakespeare and other early modern writers, and at the theological, philosophical, and cultural traditions upon which those writers drew. It wants to develop a new understanding of the early modern English poetics and dramaturgy of soul, spirit and ghost that emphasises the centrality and 'realness' of the immaterial.
