Mr Oliver Emanuel

Education and Experience

Oliver Emanuel is a playwright for both stage and radio. He studied English/Theatre Studies at the University of Leeds before going to to complete a MA in Creative Writing at the University of East Anglia in 2002. His theatre work includes: Flight (Vox Motus/Edinburgh International Festival, 2017), winner of a Herald Angel Award, 2017; The 306: Day (National Theatre of Scotland/Perth Theatre/Stellar Quines/1418NOW, 2017); The 306: Dawn (National Theatre of Scotland/Perth Theatre/1418NOW, 2016); Prom (Oran Mor/Traverse/Lemon Tree, 2016); Titus (Lu Kemp & Red Bridge Arts, worldwide tour, 2011-17), winner of the Victor Award for Best Play at IPAY 2015; The Adventures of Robin Hood (Visible Fictions/Kennedy Center, 2014-7); The Lost Things (Tortoise in a nutshell/Imaginate, 2015-7); The Little Boy That Santa Claus Forgot (macrobert, 2013); Dragon (National Theatre of Scotland/Vox Motus/Edinburgh International Festival), winner of Best Show for Children and Young People at the UK Theatre Awards 2015; The Day I Swapped My Dad For Two Goldfish (National Theatre of Scotland, 2013); The Spirit of Adventure (Dundee Rep, 2012). Oliver has also written many radio plays including: Emile Zola: Blood, Sex & Money (BBC Radio 4, 2014-16), winner of Best Adaptation at the BBC Audio Drama Awards, 2017; A History of Paper (BBC Radio 4, 2016); (Take me to…) The Necropolis (BBC Radio 4, 2015); Albion Street (BBC Radio Scotland, 2014); The Spare Room (BBC Radio 4, 2013); The Other One (BBC Radio 4, 2012); Ancient Greek (BBC Radio 4, 2011); Everything (BBC Radio 4, 2010); Daniel & Mary (BBC Radio Scotland, 2009).

Oliver is currently writing new plays for the National Theatre of Scotland, BBC Radio 4 and The Unicorn. He is an Associate Playwright at the Playwright Studio Scotland and his plays are published by Oberon Books.

Research Interests

Playwriting, writing for children and young people, radio drama.
