Pre-degree English Language Requirements (2019 entry)

If you use English as an additional language and you are coming to study at the University of St Andrews as a pre-degree student, you must provide us with evidence that you meet our English language requirements.

The University can assess your English language ability from a range of tests and qualifications but, if you need a Tier 4 visa, UK Visas & Immigration (UKVI) requires you to provide a Secure English Language Test (SELT) as the language evidence for your visa application. This can be either an IELTS (Academic) for UKVI or a Trinity SELT (ISE II).

When do I provide my English language evidence?

If you have already achieved the required English language level before you apply, please include the evidence with your application form.

Evidence of your English language ability can also be submitted after you have applied, so please do not wait for your results before you apply to the University.

If you do not have evidence that you have met our English language requirement before you apply, this will form part of any conditional offer we make you.
