English Language Teaching (ELT) at the University of St Andrews provides high quality foundation, postgraduate, pre-sessional and summer programmes for international students. These programmes introduce students to university life through language, academic subject knowledge and cultural development.
A team of over 30 members of staff and more than 20 academic subject tutors design and deliver courses which give students a unique opportunity to become familiar with the demands of university life and to develop the necessary skills for academic success at the University of St Andrews and other institutions in the UK.
Staff at ELT are committed and passionate about English language teaching innovation and research. This results in the development of programmes that enable international students to perform at the same level as native English speakers in the UK. These programmes act as a catalyst for future successful careers.
ELT's subject and language experts are also responsible for tailor-made courses which are designed for educational institutions and organisations looking for courses that focus on specific areas of interest or subjects, for example these courses may include, but are not limited to:
- English language and Scottish culture.
ELT is also home to TEFL and teacher training courses as well as the In-sessional English Language Service (iELS) which provides free language support to current University of St Andrews students who use English as a second or additional language.
