Scholarships

Scholarships have always been at the heart of the University of St Andrews – from the gift that first created four bursaries in 1450, to the scholarship that enabled Nobel Prize-winning pharmacologist James Black to begin his university studies, to the financial support that we are able to give today’s students.

At St Andrews, we are committed – in line with our strategic aims to be diverse and internationally excellent – to attracting and admitting students with outstanding academic potential, whatever their race, religion or background.

Undergraduate support

We have several ways to support undergraduate students at St Andrews including Gateway Programmes and Wardlaw Scholarships.

International Undergraduate Scholarships enable some of the brightest applicants from a diverse range of backgrounds, identities and experiences to study at St Andrews.

Postgraduate support

The Handsel Scheme is research-focused and aims to attract the most talented postgraduates, regardless of their home or overseas fee status.

St Leonard’s Postgraduate College offers a range of scholarships for postgraduate taught one-year Masters applicants.

Saints Abroad scholarships

Saints Abroad scholarships offer undergraduate students exciting opportunities to spend a semester or year abroad as part of their St Andrews degree programme.
