St Andrews in the News

Special event issue

Welcome to this special issue of St Andrews in the News, our e-newsletter for alumni, friends and supporters around the world, announcing a gala event in London in November 2012 in the presence of Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

Royal Patron to attend 600th Anniversary Charity Event

Duke and Duchess A limited number of places have been made available for alumni and friends to attend a charity dinner in Middle Temple Hall, London on Thursday 8 November, 2012 in the presence of Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

The gala event is being organised to support the University's 600th Anniversary Campaign, of which the Duke is Patron. In particular, funds raised on the evening will aid the 600th Anniversary Scholarship Fund, which is creating opportunities for gifted students of limited financial resource. By joining the Royal couple, current St Andrews scholarship recipients, and over 250 other alumni and friends from around the globe, guests will be demonstrating their commitment to ensuring that the brightest minds of today and tomorrow are able to follow in the footsteps of illustrious St Andrews graduates, including Scottish First Minister Alex Salmond, Nobel Laureate Sir James Black, James Wilson - one of the fathers of the American Revolution, writer Fay Weldon, actress Siobhan Redmond, as well as The Duke and Duchess themselves.

A small number of premium tickets for this exclusive private donor event are available to friends and philanthropists. Enquiries by email to Further information about the event is available here.

The intellectual capital of our students and academics is our most valuable possession. It is the basis of our global standing, and the foundation stone upon which our future success depends. With the support of our Campaign Patron and the generosity of our alumni and friends, we hope to make the 8 November event a critical contributor to the future of Scotland’s first University.

Professor Louise Richardson FRSE, Principal and Vice-Chancellor, University of St Andrews

At your bidding

Auction Items

Fancy a holiday on a private estate in the Hamptons or see yourself on safari in East Africa? Both of these opportunities will go to whoever bids the most in support of the University’s 600th Anniversary Scholarship Fund at the gala event on 8 November.

And even if you can’t be with us on the night, you can take part in the auction online.

Alumni, friends and supporters have donated a dazzling array of prize auction lots, ranging from a luxury safari in East Africa, holiday homes in the Hamptons and Orlando to Scotland’s finest hospitality at Gleneagles, and golf on the Old Course.
