Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA) data just released confirms that St Andrews is the top university in Scotland for student retention. Read more.

Astrophysicist recognised in Suffrage awards

Professor Moira Jardine of the School of Physics and Astronomy is to receive an award that recognises leading female scientists and engineers. Read more.


New prognostic test for colorectal cancer

A new prognostic method that would allow high-risk stage two cancer patients to be identified more accurately has been created by researchers at St Andrews. Read more.


Continuing the legacy of the Apollo missions

St Andrews alumna Dr Jessica Barnes (BSc 2011) has been selected by NASA to lead one of nine teams to continue the science legacy of the Apollo missions by studying pieces of the Moon that have been carefully stored and untouched for nearly 50 years. Read more.

New RSE Fellows

A philosopher, a geneticist and a medieval manuscripts expert from the University of St Andrews join Principal and Vice-Chancellor Professor Sally Mapstone as new Fellows of the Royal Society of Edinburgh (RSE). Read more.

We are delighted to announce the launch of a new project on the University’s crowdfunding platform: Rachel Nixon has been selected to take part in Project Zambia this summer, where she will be supporting teachers and students in the school in Kazemba, accompanied by our University staff team. Read more.

Meanwhile, R&A International Scholars Alex McMaster and Merlin Heatherington have raised £12,145 and are continuing their travels on foot across Africa to train more health workers and deliver more Arclights. Every £1 donated helps this ongoing quest. Be part of it by donating online.

We would love to hear from students, alumni and staff alike about fundraising initiatives that could benefit the University community, so please contact us! If you’ve already been in touch, we’ll get back to you to carry on the discussion. Santander Universities Women in Football
Trip to Barcelona March 2019

Last week Saints Footballer and 1st Team vice-captain Meredith Ferneau travelled to Barcelona to represent the University at an event organised by Santander Universities to celebrate the sponsorship of the UEFA Champions League. Participants also attended the Barcelona v Lyon match at the end of the three-day programme. The event − open to female football players from Santander partner universities − aims to promote women in football and the benefits that football can bring to wider society. Annual University Public Meeting

We would be delighted if you could join us during this year's Alumni Festival Weekend for the first Annual University Public Meeting held by the University of St Andrews (and thereafter at a drinks reception) on Saturday 6 April at 5pm.

During this meeting Professor Sally Mapstone, Principal and Vice-Chancellor, Dame Anne Pringle, Senior Governor of the University Court and Paloma Paige, Students’ Association President will address the key issues and opportunities facing the University, and will take questions from the audience.

Please note that, while free to attend, pre-registration is required. Places are limited and will therefore be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Find out more about the meeting and register to attend.

Spring telephone campaign: thanks for taking time to talk

A huge thank you to all the alumni and parents who took the time to talk to our students and to support St Andrews during the recent phone campaign. It not only funds key projects such as scholarships – it also gives our students the opportunity to develop essential skills, ask for advice and gain networking opportunities that will help them in the future.


St Andrews Summer Sports Camps

Saints Sport are hosting camps in Summer 2019 for Hockey (Ages 13-17), Rugby (Ages 8-16), Tennis (Ages 13-17) and Ultimate Frisbee (Ages 13-21).

The five-day camps provide an insight into all aspects of performance sport at University. They incorporate individual specialist skills like coaching, and focus on technical drills within team play, general fitness and conditioning sessions. Book now.

Alumni Festival Weekend 2019: Friday 5 to Sunday 7 April

Are you joining us for this year’s Alumni Festival Weekend? Paper Memories (7+)

The Byre Theatre, Saturday 13 April, 2pm
Jabuti Theatre’s Paper Memories is a performance for children aged 7+ about migration, identity and the power of memories. Aerial-dance, puppetry and music are used to share the memories of Tali, a refugee girl arriving in Scotland with her family.

SCO: Ravel Piano Concerto

The Younger Hall, Wednesday 10 April, 7.30
Bertrand Chamayou takes the stage for Ravel’s piano concerto. Ravel fell in love with jazz in the 1920s and fused it brilliantly here with his own European heritage.
