Arnold Palmer Invitational, 9 September 2019

Take part in this friendly competition to win the coveted Arnold Palmer Invitational Claret Jug Trophy!  Golfers will spend the day teeing off on the Castle Course with all refreshments and an exclusive Saints Golf gift bag included. Patrons’ Programme, 12-13 September 2019

One trans-African cycle, 13 punctures and a marathon later …

Students Alex McMaster and Merlin Hetherington returned to St Andrews after cycling 10,000km from Cairo to Cape Town (with 13 punctures) and then running the Edinburgh Marathon – all in their quest to raise funds to help fight preventable blindness and deafness. Thank you to everyone who has supported them and contributed to this inspirational project. The boys have almost reached their target! Find out how you can help them to finish their quest on SaintsFunder, where you can also discover other exciting projects such as the University’s Boat Club Project 24. They have reached half way and can now purchase their first boat and have just received amazing news that they have secured the support of a matched donor to help them reach their ambitious target.

Santander Universities Champions League: final screening event

On 1 June Women's 1st team player Kendall Welsh and Men's 1st team player Findlay Tough were selected for an exclusive leadership training event and enjoyed the screening of the Champions League final game as part of the University’s partnership with Santander Universities. Finlaggan – digitally reconstructed

The University of St Andrews Open Virtual Worlds Team and spin-out company Smart History have used major archaeological work by the National Museum of Scotland to help them digitally reconstruct Finlaggan – the lost medieval home of the Lords of the Isles. Read more.

The IncomparaBubble John Honey

Our Annual Giving intern Rowan Wishart (a third-year English student) was so inspired by the piece about the John Honey Award in last month’s St Andrews in the News that she decided to do some research and has written a blog for Incomparabubble celebrating one of our most selfless alumni.

New review suggests gene-culture coevolution not unique to humans

According to a review published in Nature Communications by St Andrews academics, evolutionary adaptations resulting from cultural change – such as humans being able to consume dairy products – are not unique to humans. Read more.

St Andrews in Berlin

On 16 May members of the University of St Andrews German Association, a number of our alumni and Professor Brad MacKay, Vice-Principal (International Strategy and External Relations) represented the University at a Connected Scotland networking event for alumni of Scottish universities. This was held at the British Embassy in Berlin, and celebrated Scotland’s continuing strong links with Germany. Richard Lochhead MSP (Minister for Further Education, Higher Education and Science) also attended. View the photo gallery.

St Andrews Summer Sports Camps

Saints Sport is hosting camps in Summer 2019 for Hockey (Ages 13-17), Rugby (Ages 8-16), Tennis (13-17) and Ultimate Frisbee (Ages 13-21).

The five-day camps give an insight into all aspects of performance sport at university and incorporate individual specialist skills coaching, technical drills focusing on team play and general fitness and conditioning sessions.

Psychology Golden Anniversary Celebrations: 23−25 August 2019

General Council News

Summer Meeting of the General Council – 29 June 2019
The next meeting of the General Council will take place on Saturday 29 June 2019 at 10.30am in Parliament Hall, St Andrews, with tea and coffee available from 10am. The Principal and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sally Mapstone, will give the University Address. In addition, Professor Vincent Janik, Director of the Scottish Oceans Institute, will give a presentation entitled “The new Scottish Oceans Institute: a Hub for Excellence and Innovation in Marine Science”.

To help with planning, members are asked to please register their intention to attend by sending an email with their name and, if applicable, their degree and year of graduation to A link to the billet (meeting paper) will be sent to members in advance of the meeting.

Get your walking boots on and join the University of St Andrews Alumni Club, Austria for an Alumni wine hike on Sunday 21 July. Taking in the spectacular scenery while having a drink along the way. What better way to spend your Sunday afternoon.

New England (Boston)

Come and join the University of St Andrews Alumni Club, New England at our first event of the summer! The event will take place on Thursday 27 June from 6pm at Night Shift Owl’s Nest, Esplanade, Boston. (Directions: the pop-up beer garden is located right along the Charles River on the Esplanade and across from the Esplanade Playground.)

North West Alumni Association (Manchester)

Textile artist and Master Milliner Jeannette Sendler delivers a workshop at the Byre on the day of her performance of Felt at 7pm. Play with materials and make sculptures. No experience required, but lots of enthusiasm necessary!
