A unique relationship with Europe …

Britain’s ability to influence the European marine science agenda after BREXIT will be critical to ensuring that we remain at the forefront of international research. Through the Marine Alliance for Science and Technology for Scotland (MASTS) the University of St Andrews has a unique relationship with Europe. Read more.

Everyone for tennis!

A major £14m redevelopment and extension of the University Sports Centre culminates this month with the completion of the four-court indoor tennis centre, made possible with generous funding from sportscotland, Tennis Scotland, the Lawn Tennis Association and the Horn family. The new, improved Sports Centre is proving to be hugely beneficial to and popular with those studying, living and working in St Andrews, and the University now has the reputation of having some of the best sports facilities in the country. They’re hired!

A group of 15 apprentices from the University’s Estates and IT Services Departments recently competed in teams of three in an Apprentice-style challenge to carry out a range of tasks around St Andrews. Read more.

The TheoArtistry Festival: six new musical compositions

The recent TheoArtistry Festival marked the launch of six new musical compositions created in collaboration between research students at the School of Divinity at St Andrews, and six talented composers who were mentored by Sir James MacMillan. Read more.

Prestigious award for HCSTPV

The Handa Centre for the Study of Terrorism and Political Violence (HCSTPV) – part of the School of International Relations – recently received an award for its Counter Terrorism courses. Read more.


Music Planet

The St Andrews Chamber Orchestra performed two concerts in Arran and Bute as part of Music Planet, a unique project that brings together musicians, scientists and researchers. Read more.

Rugby Club 160th Anniversary Dinner

The University Rugby Club warmly invites students, alumni, supporters, friends and family to attend the 160th Anniversary Dinner on Saturday 2 June at the Fairmont Hotel, St Andrews. The evening will be hosted in partnership with the Bill McLaren Foundation, which aims to improve lives through rugby and inspire youngsters to achieve their personal best. We are delighted to bring you an evening of entertainment with former All Black captain and rugby legend Sean Fitzpatrick, and with ex-Scotland captain Rory Lawson overseeing events as master of ceremonies.

Tickets are available to buy now from the University's Online Shop. Please note that sales will close on Friday 4th May 2018.

The spring telephone campaign: it’s good to have talked!

The spring telethon has just ended with gifts pledged of over £130k for our priority projects! Thank you so much to all the fantastic alumni, parents and friends who took the time to talk to our student callers: we really appreciate your time and your support for St Andrews. The students really enjoyed the campaign and we hope that you continue to support your University. If you didn’t manage to talk to a student this time, we hope you will consider doing so in future campaigns. And if you are considering pledging a gift, it’s still not too late to participate.


Study on competitive culture of banks

A new study by the University of St Andrews and the University of Edinburgh Business School uses empirical data to support the theory that corporate culture and risk are directly linked. Read more.

Fourth Arnold Palmer Invitational Golf Tournament

The University of St Andrews Arnold Palmer Invitational golf tournament is returning to the St Andrews links this year. A round of golf on the stunning Castle Course and some friendly competition will be followed by dinner and prize-giving. Alumni, parents, students and friends of the University are all invited to join us for the event on Saturday 30 June 2018 at the end of Graduation Week. All proceeds from the event will support the Arnold Palmer Scholarship and the Saints Golf Programme. Further information and register.

Alumni Festival Weekend 2018

There are just three weeks left until this year's Alumni Festival Weekend and we are looking forward to welcoming you back to St Andrews! The schedule is full with a wide range of events - whether you are a fan of sport, enjoy music, dance, theatre or a good debate, or are looking for an opportunity for career networking or socialising, there is something for everyone. This month on the blog we hear from Principal Student Ambassador Charlie Maguire about what it’s like to help guide future generations of St Andreans around the town on a Visiting Day, while alumnus Hugh Rogers (BSc 1998) tells us of his journey to creating an award-winning film.

The University of St Andrews Alumni Club, North West of England invites you to come to a ceilidh on Saturday 28 April at the Parish Centre, Barlow Moor Road, Didsbury, Manchester from 7.30pm. Email for tickets and more information.


The University of St Andrews Alumni Club, Oxford is hosting the Oxford Photographic Society Annual Exhibition on Saturday 31 March. More information.

The Club is also organising object handling at the Pitt Rivers Museum Collection on Saturday 14 April, followed by coffee and cake at Weston Library. Email for more information.

Since its foundation in 1413, the University of St Andrews has benefited greatly from public generosity. The Enduring Gifts exhibition explores a range of donations and the motivations behind them, and how they shaped and developed the University’s existence.
