£5m EPSRC funding for phototonics

Researchers from the University of St Andrews and the University of York have been awarded over £5m from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) to research resonant and shaped photonics, which could transform our understanding of the biomedical world. Read more.

The University of St Andrews Alumni Club, London has two more great events planned following last week’s successful Careers Networking Night. The next alumni pub night will take place at The Ship (68 Borough Road, SE1 1DX) on Tuesday 26 September from 6.30pm.

A whisky tasting, exclusively for St Andrews alumni, will take place at the Soho Whisky Club on Saturday 7 October from 1.00pm–2.30pm. Limited spaces remain and tickets can be purchased online at Eventbrite.


The University of St Andrews Alumni Club, Malta is meeting for dinner at the British Hotel, Valletta, followed by drinks at the Bridge Bar on Friday 29 September from 7.30pm–11.00pm. All alumni and friends are welcome to attend! Please RSVP.

New England

The University of St Andrews Alumni Club, New England is meeting for a drinks night at the Highball Lounge in Boston on Thursday 28 September from 6.00pm–8.00pm. All alumni and friends are welcome!

New York

Join the board of the University of St Andrews Alumni Club, New York on Thursday 21 September at 7pm at The Manor, 333 East 43rd Street, NY 10017. You can enjoy hors d’oevres while hearing information about upcoming events, alumni club membership and joining the board. It’s a great opportunity to meet the local St Andrews community and learn how to get more involved. Tickets are $45 and are available from the Club's website.

The Principal, Professor Sally Mapstone and Professor Brad MacKay, Vice-Principal (International Strategy and External Relations), will be hosting an evening for alumni, parents and friends of the University in New York on 27 October.


The University of St Andrews Alumni Club, Switzerland is reserving a table for the Oktoberfest tent in the Züri Wiesn at Zürich HB on Friday 13th October at 5pm. RSVP ASAP – tables fill up fast! Tickets cost CHF88 – more details available on the Club's Facebook page.


Join fellow alumni, parents and friends of the University of St Andrews at a networking event in Toronto. Phil Pass (a senior member of the University's alumni team based in St Andrews) and Jo Finnie Jones (Associate Head of Major Gifts) will host the event and will inform guests about our exciting plans for future engagement and fundraising in North America.

British Council Study UK Alumni Awards

The Alumni Awards celebrate the outstanding achievements of alumni: award winners and finalists are leaders in their fields who have used their experience of studying at a UK university to make a positive contribution to their communities, professions and countries. University of St Andrews Rugby Club 160th Anniversary

The University Rugby Club is delighted to announce the date for their 160th Anniversary Celebrations, which will take place over the weekend of 1 – 3 June 2018. Alumni and friends of Saints Rugby are all invited back to St Andrews for a weekend featuring golf, exhibition matches on University Park and a celebratory dinner. If you would like to be added to the 160th mailing list, or for more information, please contact the club.
