Santander reaches £1 million

On Thursday 20 April Matt Hutnell, Director of Santander Universities UK joined Principal and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sally Mapstone, Director of Development, Robert Fleming and beneficiaries of Santander funding at St Andrews to celebrate an ongoing 10 year partnership, and over £1 million of generous Santander Universities UK support. Saints Sport news

Saints Golf player awarded Order of Merit
First year physics student Matthew Myers from Northampton was named British Individual Stroke Play Champion and awarded the Order of Merit title after a hard fought battle at the BUCS Tour Final at Prince’s Golf Club in Kent recently. Read more.

Third Arnold Palmer Invitational 2017
Limited places remain for you to join us for the third annual Arnold Palmer Invitational Golf Tournament on Saturday 24 June 2017. Your round will be followed by the prize-giving dinner. Finalists chosen for The St Andrews Prize for the Environment

Three finalists have been chosen for this year’s prestigious St Andrews Prize for the Environment – a joint environmental initiative between the University of St Andrews and ConocoPhillips. The Prize focuses on sustainability, conservation, biodiversity and community development. Find out when the winner is being announced.

Alumni Festival Weekend

The third annual Alumni Festival Weekend took place from 14-16 April with alumni from across the world returning to St Andrews to take part in a range of events and activities. Student societies and sports clubs welcomed former members back for special fixtures and socials and almost 80 alumni and friends joined the Principal for a dinner in Lower College Hall.

Piscatorial problem-solving!

Scientists at the School of Biology have found that groups of animals can pool their experience to solve problems collectively. These findings – which could have implications for businesses and even bio-inspired swarm robotics – are published on the Nature Ecology & Evolution website. Read more.


Cycle-friendly St Andrews

The Proctor – Professor Lorna Milne – accepted a Cycle Friendly Campus Award from Cycling Scotland on 12 April, in recognition of the University’s efforts to encourage cycling as an accessible and convenient travel choice. Read more. Photo credit: Laurence Winram.

After Many Days Club

The AMDC will hold its AGM on Friday 23 June at 5pm in the Gateway Building and its annual lunch on Saturday 24 June at 12.30pm for 1pm in Lower College Hall. These events will form part of the Club’s annual Summer Reunion Weekend. Details are in the Yearbook, which should reach members soon.


The next University of St Andrews Alumni Club, Austria drinks event will take place on Thursday 27 April at 7pm at home café Spitalgasse 3, 1090 Vienna. For further information see the Club’s Facebook page.

The newly formed University of St Andrews Alumni Club, North West of England warmly invites all graduates of St Andrews of any age or degree who also have a connection to the North West of England to join us. Our first event will be a ceilidh this summer – look out for details!

The University of St Andrews Alumni Club, Oxford is having a second gathering on Saturday 27 May. Enjoy a lovely picnic on the final day of this year’s glorious Oxford Summer Eights at Christ Church Meadow. Please email Alan Slater by 30 April if you would like to come along.

The Winter Work Shadowing Programme offered more than 230 opportunities for students to shadow our alumni and friends and we'd love to break 250 this summer!

Calling all University of St Andrews graduates who studied at Queen’s College, Dundee

The University of Dundee is holding an alumni weekend from Friday 19 May to Sunday 21 May in celebration of the 50th Anniversary of its foundation. This includes a special 50th Anniversary Dinner Dance at the Malmaison Hotel on 19 May. Business Committee vacancies: A reminder to General Council members that the closing date for nominations for the seven vacancies on the Business Committee is 12 noon on Friday 28 April 2017. Further information and nomination forms can be found on the General Council webpage.

The next meeting of the General Council will take place on Saturday 24 June 2017 at 10.30am in Parliament Hall, St Andrews, with tea and coffee available from 10am.

The St Andrews Baroque Orchestra
