Periodic Table People

Gavin McNeill, BSc (Hons) in Geochemistry 1989

Imagine what would happen if the elements of the Periodic Table came alive. Each element would need a first name as well as using their element name as their surname. Imagine if their first name was alliterative with their surname and they spent their time doing alliterative tasks. This book personifies each one of the 118 elements of the Periodic Table and will help you to remember their names based on what they get up to eg. Phillip Phosphorus folds phones. For elements with unusual symbols, their names and activity reflects the symbol rather than the element name eg. silver has the symbol Ag, so Agatha Silver agitates silks. This book has been written not only as an introduction to the Periodic Table, but will also help introduce new words, spelling and grammar to its readers. This picture-book is fiction but is based on scientific fact, and is primarily aimed at children from ages 7 to 11, to help them to learn the names of the chemical elements of the Periodic Table and some literacy skills. It is also a fun way for older people to learn some chemical names (particularly useful when watching Pointless for the rounds involving the names of the chemical elements).
