Saturday's Child is a mother's story of how she learned to understand her much loved elder child who was somehow slightly different. In the early days the author was often frustrated by professionals who failed to acknowledge her concerns or offer any help. At junior and secondary schools Nicola was taught in a class for 'educationally subnormal pupils.'

This a gentle and honest account of how a mother, her husband and family learned from the daughter and created a secure base from which Nicola would eventually reach out towards independence.
