CSEAR organises annual research Summer Schools for faculty, researchers and practitioners interested in all aspects of research and teaching in social and environmental accounting.

This section contains a listing of the last few schools, with links to lists of papers (where available). If you are interested in reading any of the papers, please contact the CSEAR office, and we will either be able to send you a copy or provide you with the author's e-mail address.

The previous Summer Schools have all been intensive but enjoyable, stimulating events for both junior and more experienced colleagues. Attendees have themselves encouraged the continuation of the schools.

The 2018 CSEAR Ireland Conference  will be hosted by ARC, Kemmy Business School, University of Limerick, Ireland

 

Once again, CSEAR Ireland aims to bring together scholars and practitioners interested in issues related to Social and Environmental Accounting Research, and more broadly, draws on perspectives from other disciplines to highlight possibilities for, and enlightening conceptions of, accounting and social change. The spirit of the conference is collegiate and inter-disciplinary, and we aim to provide a forum for discussion, collaboration and intellectual exchange for all those interested in any of these fields of research or practice.

CSEAR Italy Conference 2018

The 2018 CSEAR Italy Conference  will be hosted by The University of Urbino, Italy from 20 to 21 September 2018

The CSEAR Italy conferences, which have been organized bi-annually since 2006, provide an interdisciplinary forum for encouraging and facilitating research and debate in social and environmental accounting and accountability. In particular, the 7th Italian CSEAR Conference gives opportunities to present and discuss research ideas, emerging projects and working/full papers with the purpose of encouraging constructive interaction, engagement and dialogue in a friendly and supportive environment.

CSEAR North America Conference 2018

The 2018 CSEAR North America Conference  will be hosted by the School of Accounting and Finance, Ted Rogers School of Management, Ryerson University, Toronto, Canada from 20 to 22 June 2018

Similar to the CSEAR UK Summer School, the Congress will be a deliberately informal gathering of researchers, teachers, students and practitioners concerned with social and environmental accounting, teaching and research in the very widest sense. Interdisciplinary submissions are encouraged. Its emphasis is on a high level of interaction, discussion and debate in a friendly, supportive and relaxed atmosphere. Attendees are likely to include academics, practitioners and doctoral students at all levels of experience, and involved with all aspects of social, environmental and sustainability theory and practice in accounting and other disciplines. Both full and research-in-progress papers are welcomed.

ACSEAR Conference 2016

The 2016 Australasian - Centre for Social and Environmental Accounting Research (A-CSEAR) Conference will be hosted by The Centre for Accounting, Governance and Sustainability, University of South Australia from the 7 to 9 December 2016. 

The Emerging Scholars Colloquium will be held on the 7 December and the main conference will be held on 8-9 Dec 2016.

The theme of the conference is “Connecting with Nature” as participants will have the opportunity to connect with flora and fauna at the Adelaide Zoo venue.

The 14th Australasian Centre on Social and Environmental Accounting Research Conference (A-CSEAR 2015) will be held on the 10-11th December 2015 at the Macquarie Graduate School of Management, Macquarie University, NSW, Australia.

A-CSEAR 2015 offers an opportunity for scholars and practitioners interested in the issues related to Social and Environmental Accounting Research to share their thinking and research findings. This Conference provides a forum for discussion, collaboration and intellectual exchange for all those interested in any of these fields of research or practice.

The conference committee encourages contributions on a wide range of topics through the use of a variety of rigorous approaches, including theoretical and empirical papers employing qualitative, quantitative and critical methods, Action-based research and case studies. PhD research is also welcome and doctoral students will have the opportunity of presenting their research in the Emerging Scholars Colloquium (ESC) on the day before the conference (9 December).

Submissions are now open to the International Conference on Environmental Accounting (CSEAR South America), CSEAR IV 2015.

The IV CSEAR South America will be held in Salvador, Bahia, from the 29th June 2015 until the 30th June 2015 and it intends to motivate a debate on terminology used in this area of knowledge, trying to deep the research on measurement and accountability of social and environmental elements that impact on the organisations’ financial results. The theme of the IV CSEAR South America will be Accounting Towards Sustainability: Is it the Pathway?

3rd French Conference on Social and Environmental Accounting Research: 3rd CSEAR France Conference

Similar to other CSEAR conferences, the 3rd CSEAR France Conference will be a deliberately informal discussion forum gathering researchers, teachers, students and practitioners at all levels of experience to further enhance research in new instruments, policies and strategies related to social and environmental accounting in the very widest sense. The spirit of the conference is interdisciplinary and focuses on a high level of interaction, discussion and debate in a friendly and supportive atmosphere. As such, research papers from perspectives beyond accounting and management control such as organizational theory, marketing, finance, strategy, etc., are welcome.

The conference will provide participants an opportunity to present their research projects, ranging from discussing preliminary findings to full papers. Submissions are welcome in either French or English.

For this third CSEAR France conference, we are pleased to welcome Professor Brendan O’Dwyer, Professor of Accounting at the University of Amsterdam, as our plenary speaker.

Under the aegis of the AFC (French Accounting Association), the conference will be organized by the ESSEC Centre of Excellence for Management and Society.

Papers are invited in all areas of social and environmental accounting and environmental and sustainability management accounting. The Annual International Conference of the Centre for Social and Environmental Accounting Research (CSEAR) was held from Wednesday 27th August at 9am until Friday 29th August at 2pm. It was immediately preceeded by an Emerging Scholars Colloquium on Tuesday 26th August.

The Conference
The plenary conference speaker for the conference was Professor Ken McPhail of La Trobe University in Australia. The conference provided a forum for scholarly work in various stages of development and explicitly encourages open discussion as well as close collegiality. Abstracts of the Full papers (PDF, 491 KB) and Working Papers (PDF, 530 KB) are now available.

The 12th A-CSEAR Conference is being hosted by the University of Waikato in Hamilton, New Zealand, from 1st to 3rd December 2013, with a colloquium on the 30th of November. The theme of the conference is "Social and Environmental Accounting: Past, Present, and Future". Plenary speakers include Gordon Boyce, Al Gillespie, James Guthrie and Juliet Roper.

The 2nd CSEAR France Congress

This conference is being organised by colleagues from the Université Montpellier 1, Institut des Sciences de l'Entreprise et du Management. It aims to provide a forum for informal discussion on the development of tools, policies and strategies relating to environmental and social accounting. The spirit of this conference is interdisciplinary and the organisers welcome approaches related to organisational theory, human resources, marketing, finance and strategy.

The plenary speaker will be Den Patten, Professor of Accounting at Illinois State University, USA.  A panel will also be held in which Professor Christine Cooper, Professor at the University of Strathclyde and Co-Editor-in-Chief of Critical Perspectives on Accounting, will participate.

A special issue of the journal Critical Perspectives on Accounting will be associated with this conference, and edited by Charles Cho, ESSEC Business School, and Sophie Giordano-Spring, Université Montpellier 1, MRM.

This congress will be held just before the European Accounting Association conference which is being held in Paris, 6th – 8th May, 2013.
