Out of office hours

+ 4401334 476161

Using the above contact information is appropriate if

  • You urgently need to speak to a member of staff but the University is closed
  • The health of someone at the University is at risk
  • You have urgent information that will immediately improve the quality of life for someone at the university and cannot wait until the offices open

All university offices in the University of St Andrews are closed between the hours of 5:00pm and 8:45am (GMT time) on weekdays, on weekends and on University -recognised holidays.

During the times outline above, all calls will be transferred to an Out of Hours Security Officer. If necessary, and your call is urgent and unable to wait until the offices open, the Security Officer will take your details. He or she will then phone an appropriate member of our staff who has volunteered to receive phone calls at home in emergencies. This staff member will then be able to phone you back to offer further assistance.

If the nature of the emergency seems to be matter of  immediate life or limb, please do not waste time, but contact our National Emergency Services. If you choose to contact the National Emergency Services (999) please let our out of hours staff know as well.

The details of your call may be recorded and may be referred onto other members of staff within the university or used for training purposes.

Please be aware that we are not able to share private information about students with third parties. For more information, refer to What the confidentiality code means for parents

Wardennial services

If the emergency you wish to report is occurring within a University hall of residence, it may be best to contact the relevant warden. The details of how to contact each warden can be found under Wardennial Services.

Nightline is a listening and information service operated by students for students in the University of St Andrews. A male and a female Nightliner are available by phone and by email from 8pm to 7am every night that all Halls of Residence are open. They’re there to provide a confidential, anonymous, and non-judgmental ear for students who need someone to talk to and they hope to be able to point you in the right direction for further assistance.
