Pastoral Care

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: The Chaplaincy offer pastoral care online via Microsoft Teams, or in person, for students and staff - contact the Chaplaincy at, the Chaplain Donald MacEwan on or Assistant Chaplain Samantha Ferguson on to arrange an appointment.

Due to current restrictions Mansefield is mainly accessible for booked pastoral appointments or pre-booked prayer or worship services. Please press the buzzer at the main door to gain entry.  Hand sanitising gel must be used on entering and exiting the building and face coverings be worn when entering and moving through the building and while waiting in reception. 

The Chaplain, Revd Dr Donald MacEwan, and Assistant Chaplain, Revd Samantha Ferguson, are available to offer pastoral care for any student or member of staff, regardless of faith or philosophy of life. This could be sympathetic, confidential listening ear, support in emotional issues, a safe place to explore questions of faith, someone to talk to in a crisis, about a personal relationship or family worries, bereavement, or support when all else fails. 

The chaplains also offers confidential support to people on questions of sexuality. Online resources for Christians and others over issues in sexuality can be found at Affirmation Scotland. Muslim students with questions relating to their sexuality are welcome to approach the Honorary Islamic Chaplain to the University, Imam Abdul Rauf ( The following website also offers support:
