Through a Glass Darkly

The project, undertaken by Rebecca Sweetman and Sophia Mirashrafi of the School of Classics in collaboration with Alison Hadfield and Hannah Sycamore of Museum of the University of St Andrews (MUSA) has a number of practical and research aims.

The central practical mission is to digitise the material of the Bridges collection to make it accessible to the public and for use in education contexts.

Underpinning these practical aims is a number of research questions pertaining whether digital media impacts on people’s understanding of material culture; in particular the function of the object, whether the object might be considered art or artefact, whether the context of the object can be ascertained easily and whether the entangled life of an object can be read.

We are grateful to the support of the Leventis Foundation in making this possible.
