Converge 2019

Looking to get your business idea off to a flying start? Applications are now open for Converge 2019, the leading company creation competition for staff, students and recent graduates of Scottish Universities and Research Institutes.

From spin outs to start-ups, Converge helps the most innovative and creative thinkers from academia to realise their entrepreneurial ambitions by offering no-strings-attached cash prizes, mentoring and a programme of business support that turns fledgling businesses into investor-ready companies. Open to staff, students and recent graduates (within 24 months of graduation)

This year you can choose from three competition categories:

  • Converge Challenge – for projects demonstrating protectable know how, high commercial potential and scalability
  • Creative Challenge – for innovative, new businesses operating within Scotland’s creative industries sector
  • Impact Challenge – for innovative, new businesses with a social or environmental mission at their core

Shell Livewire Smarter Future Award

The Smarter Future Programme supports young entrepreneurs with smart and innovative ideas that meet the energy and resource needs of a fast-growing population. The programme awards a start-up grant of £5,000 each month to one 16-30 year old entrepreneur with an idea that addresses sustainable living challenges through smart innovation. In addition to the funding, winners are also invited to take part in exclusive Shell events and workshops.


ShowCode is a cutting-edge competitive coding platform that aims to enhance the employability of STEM students that have an interest in coding.

UniCode 2019 is the next competition that is specifically designed, and only for students in full time academia.  The overall prize fund has increased to £10,000 this year with the winner walking away with £2,500!
