What has been your route to getting your current position?
After graduation I applied directly to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for a job. I did an internship for almost a year and after passing all Civil Service examinations and commissions I was appointed as Attache at the International Information Committee. The work was very interesting, which included communication with the national/international media representatives, creating a positive image of the country through media instruments. After that, I decided to move on and changed to the Europe Department which works towards bilateral relations with European countries. Finally, I was sent to represent our interests at the international organizations accredited in Vienna.
What does your job involve ?
Represent our interests within the organizations and implement country's global initiatives.
What are the best bits of your job ?
International organizations are established for the purpose of creating a better world. The diplomats accredited here are trying to involve their countries in the different initiatives and projects implemented by the organizations, or it might be initiated by the country itself, so it is supporting each other for global peace and stability.
Why were you successful?
I tried hard to learn interpretation, stylistic writing, organization of events (protocol) and communication in various fields.
What skills/ knowledge from your degree have you found particularly helpful in this role?
Basic knowledge of International Relations and argumentation. Plus languages.
What advice would you give to students wishing to follow the same path?
You should work hard whatever you do and do the best you can. This will be your key to success. In my field of work, you have to know everything and be ready for unexpected situations at the highest possible level.
