What has been your route to getting your current position? |
After graduation from the University of St Andrews, I completed a two year MSc (pre-reg) in Physiotherapy. I graduated from RGU in January 2015 and started working as a physio in the NHS immediately. |
What does your job involve ? |
The assessment and treatment of patients as an in-patient, outpatient or out in the community.
Working with a large team of other health professionals. |
What are the best bits of your job ? |
Helping patients to meet rehabilitation goals.
The warm hydrotherapy pool isn't too bad either ! |
Why were you successful? |
I volunteered a lot during my time in St Andrews with the first aid society.
I also undertook shadowing with a range of different physiotherapists.

What skills/ knowledge from your degree have you found particularly helpful in this role? |
I find the research communication and time
Management skills the most helpful. |
What advice would you give to students wishing to follow the same path? |
The course is an accelerated course so is very time consuming for the two years. With the correct time management you will also be able to enjoy a social life.
The hours of work are normally fairly standard 8.30-4.30 weekdays, however there is an on call requirement and many services are moving to a 7 day service. |
