What has been your route to getting your current position?
Co-op year with company as part of my degree followed by job application to them upon graduation.
What does your job involve ?
Routine testing. Research and development of new and existing products. Lab safety and research coordination.
What are the best bits of your job ?
Independence to coordinate my own research and arrange my own work day. New and excited projects coming in on a regular basis. Variety.
Why were you successful?
I had experience in the field from my co-op year.
What skills/ knowledge from your degree have you found particularly helpful in this role?
Chemistry knowledge and time management.
What advice would you give to students wishing to follow the same path?
If you enjoy your co-op year and see yourself working for that company upon graduation keep contact channels open if your final year/s of uni. I work 8-4:30 and there are social aspects to the job; for example Company Xmas parties and Stampede events.
