What has been your route to getting your current position?
It's always been my ambition to work as a developer, so from the beginning of my internship from the University of St Andrews, putting an average of an hour a day in job hunting gave me a job of Junior Software Engineer.  Although I wasn't passionate about this role, I wanted to get a foothold in the IT industry so took that offer and then after 5 months of experience in the field, I started job hunting once again and finally got a job as an iPhone Application developer. Due to my skills for the job such as hard work, ability to do the job well, teamwork, leadership, Professional attitude towards clients and other developers, I am now a "Senior Application Developer".
What does your job involve ?
My job is to oversee junior developer’s work, train the junior developer up to a high standard and perform related duties as assigned. A lot of my work also involves research and development and also creating iPhone applications using object C language from scratch, Mobile Web Application development, Maintenance of IT systems,  programming in php and correction of identified defects, Maintenance of websites, Managing/creating MYSQL database.
What are the best bits of your job ?
I always try to come up with something creative/new ideas to grow our business and everyone always appreciate my ideas and follows. I love to work with other creative employees in friendly work environment.
Why were you successful?
Hard work, dedication and networking at all levels within organizational structure. I believe my ability to contribute to the extra bits, ranging from suggestions to effectively reduce company's costs to introducing company to beneficial alliances overseas to repetitively increase profits and standard of end products made my position within company really strong. I would say making yourself indispensable, never hesitating to contribute more than what I was expected to, made me successful in this journey.
What skills/ knowledge from your degree have you found particularly helpful in this role?
Various skills ranging from Database Administration knowledge to effectively working as a part of team & managing a diverse range of people, systems analysis & design skills, project management skills are some of the quintessential areas I have utilized my knowledge & experience from the degree into my work experience.
What advice would you give to students wishing to follow the same path?
You should know your abilities and always be passionate about what you're interested in with a positive attitude, determination and confidence. Set yourself goals and get involved in activities which can be useful to accomplish those goals. At the end of the day, only you can decide your destiny so do and follow what you think is best for you. Best of luck.
