What has been your route to getting your current position?
During the summer before my final year at university, I worked as a Marketing Intern for Stafffinders, a recruitment agency based in Scotland. The CEO of the company got in contact with me my during my second semester of my final year offering me an interview for the position of Marketing Associate for both Stafffinders and their sister company, Kingpin International, an International Tax Recruitment agency. Once I graduated in June, I began my career as a Marketing Associate one week later.
What does your job involve ?
My role involves driving online traffic through focusing on improving the websites' SEO and effectively managing all of the companies' social media channels. I create and manage promotional activities and web-related campaigns. I also write content for and design marketing materials such as corporate brochures, candidate cards and campaign flyers whilst also co-coordinating film briefs and visual content.

What are the best bits of your job ?
I really enjoy the variety within my role. Every day is different. One day I can be coordinating film briefs and the next day I can be speaking to clients and candidates on the phone, receiving useful feedback. I also like being immersed within a team of experts who I learn a lot from. However, one of the most important aspects within my role that I really enjoy is helping to fund-raise with my colleagues. We host bake sales, dress down days and participate in events such as the Kilt Walk. It’s great to see the impact that our efforts have on the local community.
Why were you successful?
I worked very hard during my 9 week summer internship and achieved a lot during that time. As well as being productive and having positive results on the company, I also fit in very well with the team.
What skills/ knowledge from your degree have you found particularly helpful in this role?
I believe my communication skills enhanced through my studies have been particularly helpful in this role. The nerve-wracking solo presentations were worth it after all!
What advice would you give to students wishing to follow the same path?
Get as much experience as you can. Volunteer for local companies or charities as this is a great way to learn and it also shows your dedication to pursuing a career within that field. Do remember to live life though and don't get too stressed by finding the perfect career. If it doesn't happen straight away, it will one day!
