What has been your route to getting your current position? |

What does your job involve ? |
I work for ABC News on a global campaign for girls' education called 10x10. Although the medium in which I work (film and journalism) is totally unexpected, the focus of my project on girls' education couldn't be more closely tied to the understanding of global development I gained at St Andrews. SD simultaneously deepened my understanding of global topics, exposed me to new perspectives, and taught me how to think about the interdependent nature of our world and society in a way that I couldn't have learned from a focus in IR, Management, Econ, or any other singular subject for that matter. |
What are the best bits of your job ? |
The best part for me is that I am able to apply the principles of sustainable development in almost any context, and I know I'll continue to apply them as my career unfolds. |
Why were you successful? |
n/a |
What skills/ knowledge from your degree have you found particularly helpful in this role? |
All of the team projects we did honed the leadership, management, and presentation skills that I use everyday. Additionally, I gained experience working with statistics and accountability that lend me great insight at work. The fact that the Sustainable Development program is new and the career
paths for SD majors are undefined are strengths of the program. In
exploring various job opportunities, my realm of study was exciting and
in sync with the variety of the paths I considered - social investment,
microfinance, marketing, art, to name a few. |
What advice would you give to students wishing to follow the same path? |
