Neil holds and education focused position in the School. He has a PhD and MA from The University of Manchester and an undergraduate degree from The University of Edinburgh. Neil?s PhD was funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council. 

Research areas

Neil specialises in modern and contemporary art related to gender and sexuality. Specifically, his work looks at the art and visual culture of the HIV/AIDS epidemic. His PhD looked at the penetrated body as practice and metaphor in relation to HIV/AIDS; it took an interdisciplinary approach, encompassing film and performance. While working on publications stemming from his PhD research Neil is also developing another project on time in Art History, HIV/AIDS art and medicine. He is also interested in questions of theory and methodology, biopolitics and the history of medicine.
