Although most of them do not take themselves to be doing conceptual engineering, that is exactly what they are doing. I consider some of the reasons for and against abandoning ‘fake news’, focusing specifically on the debate between those who agree that ‘fake news’ is a weaponized concept, but disagree about whether weaponization is reason to abandon or reason to retain it. This involves developing some new possibilities for conceptual engineering and outlining a theory of weaponized concepts.<\/p>","excerpt":"","slug":"conceptual-engineering-seminar-2-2018-11-20","image":false,"all_day":false,"start_date":"2018-11-20 15:00:00","start_date_details":{"year":"2018","month":"11","day":"20","hour":"15","minutes":"00","seconds":"00"},"end_date":"2018-11-20 17:00:00","end_date_details":{"year":"2018","month":"11","day":"20","hour":"17","minutes":"00","seconds":"00"},"utc_start_date":"2018-11-20 15:00:00","utc_start_date_details":{"year":"2018","month":"11","day":"20","hour":"15","minutes":"00","seconds":"00"},"utc_end_date":"2018-11-20 17:00:00","utc_end_date_details":{"year":"2018","month":"11","day":"20","hour":"17","minutes":"00","seconds":"00"},"timezone":"Europe\/London","timezone_abbr":"GMT","cost":"","cost_details":{"currency_symbol":"","currency_code":"","currency_position":"prefix","values":[]},"website":"","show_map":true,"show_map_link":true,"hide_from_listings":false,"sticky":false,"featured":false,"categories":[{"name":"Conceptual Engineering Seminar","slug":"conceptual-engineering-seminar","term_group":0,"term_taxonomy_id":43,"taxonomy":"tribe_events_cat","description":"","parent":0,"count":74,"filter":"raw","id":43,"urls":{"self":"https:\/\/www.st-andrews.ac.uk\/arche\/wp-json\/tribe\/events\/v1\/categories\/43","collection":"https:\/\/www.st-andrews.ac.uk\/arche\/wp-json\/tribe\/events\/v1\/categories"}}],"tags":[],"venue":{"id":2016,"author":"1","status":"publish","date":"2017-01-23 15:17:41","date_utc":"2017-01-23 15:17:41","modified":"2022-03-15 18:10:03","modified_utc":"2022-03-15 18:10:03","url":"https:\/\/www.st-andrews.ac.uk\/arche\/venue\/edgecliffe-g03\/","venue":"Edgecliffe G03","slug":"edgecliffe-g03","json_ld":{"@type":"Place","name":"Edgecliffe G03","description":"","url":"https:\/\/www.st-andrews.ac.uk\/arche\/venue\/edgecliffe-g03\/","address":{"@type":"PostalAddress"},"telephone":"","sameAs":""},"show_map":true,"show_map_link":true,"global_id":"www.st-andrews.ac.uk\/arche?id=2016","global_id_lineage":["www.st-andrews.ac.uk\/arche?id=2016"]},"organizer":[],"custom_fields":[],"json_ld":{"@context":"http:\/\/schema.org","@type":"Event","name":"Conceptual Engineering Seminar: Talk by Brian Weaver (Ohio State University) on “Fake News, Conceptual Engineering, and Weaponized Concepts”.","description":"<p>Abstract A lot of people across many academic and professional disciplines argue that we should stop saying \\'fake news\\'.
