While emotions have a significant effect on our daily lives, they are deeply complex and notoriously difficult to understand. Many of the great philosophers (e.g., Plato, Aristotle, Descartes, Hume) put forward theories of emotions. Nonetheless, philosophy of emotion has become more active within the past decade or so. It turns out that there are a decent number of philosophers within Scotland who do research on emotions. We thought it would be fruitful to come together and engage with one another’s work. Thus, we formed The Emotion Network. The Emotion Network aims to bring visibility to and to foster a community for the philosophers in Scotland who do research on the philosophy of emotions. This is a newly formed network. This workshop will be the inaugural meeting for the network. The participants are encouraged to present work-in-progress. In addition to papers presented, the workshop will also include time to discuss the future of the network.
