Profile

Thesis/Research: Assessing the production and transmission of social norms in a (post)revolutionary Egypt

Degrees: MA Anthropology, University of Aberdeen. Masters Sociology/Anthropology, The American University in Cairo.

Research Interests: Postcolonial Studies, Power and Citizenship, Hybridity, mechanisms of social change.

Thesis:  My research aims to address how what is considered socially acceptable or ‘normal’ has been reshaped or reassessed through the events of the revolution in Egypt and by associated social and political movements. I will focus on how normative messages are received, internalized and transmitted in family settings. I will also examine the role played by the state in guiding such messages.
