There are several sociable and academic initiatives in the Department that seek to reach out to as many students as possible. One of these is ‘Anthrosoc’, the Student’s Association affiliated anthropological society. Anthrosoc provides a forum where students, new and old, within and beyond the department, can engage with anthropology. We host a number of academic seminars, debates, workshops and discussions throughout the year, as well as frequent social events for anthropology students and staff.
In the past we have welcomed a number of outside speakers to talk, including academics from other universities and former St Andrews students who have since continued to engage with anthropology.
All undergraduates and postgraduates are welcome and warmly encouraged to get involved in Anthrosoc. Non-members are also welcome at all major events. For more information on meeting times or future events please email email@example.com. Please also check out our Facebook page and join our group for regular updates.
We also frequently host the department rock band, Anthrox (tagline ‘Highly dangerous, potentially lethal’), with great success. The current AnthroSoc President is Jackie Ashkin.
Another initiative is Ethnographic Encounters, an Open Access student-run undergraduate e-journal. Its primary purpose is to publish outstanding ethnographic projects by our second year undergraduate students. Potential contributors are warmly invited to contact the editorial team.
