Dr Richard Irvine can be heard briefly on the BBC World Service as part of the documentary “The Politics of Mongolian Hip Hop“. In the programme, the spoken word artist MC Dizraeli meets with pioneers of Mongolia’s thriving hip hop scene, exploring how rap music looks to the deep resonances of Mongolia’s heritage to ask urgent questions about the nation’s 21st century future. The documentary draws on Dr Irvine’s research on “Seeing environmental violence in deep time“, in which he traces Mongolian lyrical responses to environmental degradation.
