St Andrews has more than 4,000-bed spaces and a fantastic variety of accommodation to suit all tastes and budgets. Prospective students can be sure they will find suitable accommodation during their studies.

Applications for entrant Undergraduate and Postgraduate students are now open.

Single undergraduate students in their first year are guaranteed accommodation – usually in a hall of residence – provided they apply by 30 June

Accommodation availability 2023 - 2024

The University still has accommodation availability in all halls of residence for Undergraduates and in selected halls of residence and managed properties for Postgraduate students for 2023-24.

If you do not already have an accommodation contract with the University and wish to apply, please complete the form and we will get in touch with you regarding suitable availability.  We are also flexible on your start date and end date if you are looking for a shorter term contract.

Accommodation options

Students can choose from living in Halls of Residence, University managed houses and flats, or renting privately

The University owned and managed accommodation is available for Undergraduates, Postgraduates and Foundation students. This accommodation is operated by the University of St Andrews and includes a range of added benefits, offering a wide range of accommodation including:

  • catered and self-catered options
  • ensuite bathrooms or shared bathrooms
  • 34, 38, or 50 week contracts
  • a range of styles of accommodation, from modern purpose-built accommodation to 15th century buildings, converted to student accommodation
  • fully inclusive of heating, hot water, internet access and insurance and supported by a team of university employees
  • Halls Life wardens and staff in Hall who are there to offer pastoral care, community building and a range of events
  • student committees elected by residents each year to run events and represent students view to the University
  • guaranteed accommodation for entrant undergraduate students, care experienced and estranged students. We also offer a limited number of guaranteed rooms for postgraduate students and flexible contracts for those studying abroad for a semester.
