St Andrews in North America
Monday 18 September 2017
New President of the University of St Andrews American Foundation
We are delighted to welcome St Andrews alumnus Dr Peter Hirst MBE, BSc 1989, PhD 1992 as the new President of the American Foundation. He is currently Treasurer of the Foundation and holds the post of Associate Dean, Executive Education at MIT Sloan School of Management. Peter was awarded the MBE for services to British and American business and academic interests in 2012.
He takes over from Lynn Butcher, who served six years as President, and we are delighted Lynn continues to volunteer as an advocate for St Andrews.

Looking to the future
There are a number of exciting initiatives planned to expand and develop the staffing and volunteer network in North America, including four new positions within the Development Office. More information will follow soon.
The Principal, Professor Sally Mapstone and Professor Brad MacKay, Vice-Principal (International Strategy and External Relations), will be hosting an evening for alumni, parents and friends of the University in New York on 27 October. The Principal will lead the evening with a presentation on the University’s international strategy, and at a time of political upheaval across the world, Professor MacKay will give a ‘BREXIT briefing’, just one aspect of the turbulence in our economy in the UK, Europe and beyond. Further information and booking details.
Further events are planned in North America for October and November. Details will be released soon.
